Getting Your Pet’s Medications Should Be the Easy Part

Getting your pet the medications and preventives they need should be simple. Whether you leave a wellness exam with a new prescription or need to refill a long-term medication, our pharmacy is here to make that process effortless. At Madison Veterinary Hospital, our in-house pharmacy and online store make it easy to access the products your pet requires, dispensed safely with the guidance of the veterinary team who knows your pet best.

From prescription medications for chronic conditions to flea and tick prevention, heartworm preventives, and specialty diets, our pharmacy services are designed around convenience and continuity of care. When you get your pet’s medications through us, you also get the assurance that everything dispensed is appropriate for your individual animal, at the correct dose, with clear instructions for use.

In-House Pharmacy

Our in-house pharmacy stocks a broad range of commonly prescribed veterinary medications so that in most cases, your pet can leave their appointment with everything they need the same day. This includes:

Prescription Medications

Antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, pain management medications, anti-fungal treatments, cardiac medications, seizure management drugs, thyroid medications, and more are available directly through our pharmacy based on your veterinarian’s prescribed protocol.

Parasite Prevention

We carry a curated selection of veterinarian-recommended flea, tick, and heartworm prevention products to complement your pet’s vaccination and preventive care schedule. Our team can help you choose the right option for your pet’s lifestyle, species, and health history. Not all prevention products are the same, and some over-the-counter products marketed for pets can actually be harmful, particularly in cats. Getting parasite prevention directly from your veterinarian removes that risk.

Specialty and Prescription Diets

We stock select prescription diets for pets managing conditions such as kidney disease, urinary tract disease, food allergies, gastrointestinal disorders, and weight management. Please see our Nutritional Counseling page for more information on the role of therapeutic nutrition in managing specific health conditions.

Compounded Medications

For pets who require custom dosing, flavored formulations to improve compliance, or medications not commercially available in an appropriate form, we can coordinate compounded medications through our trusted compounding pharmacy partners.

Online Store

For the convenience of clients throughout Madison Heights, Royal Oak, Warren, Troy, Ferndale, and the surrounding region, Madison Veterinary Hospital also offers an authorized online store where you can order prescription and preventive products with home delivery.

Shopping through our authorized online pharmacy ensures that the products you receive are genuine, properly stored, and come with manufacturer guarantees. Counterfeit and improperly stored pet medications are a real concern through unauthorized third-party retailers, and purchasing through your veterinarian’s authorized channel is the safest way to protect your pet.

Why Getting Medications Through Your Vet Matters

It can be tempting to search for the lowest price on pet medications online, and we understand that cost is a real consideration. Here is what we want you to know:

Many online retailers selling pet medications are not authorized distributors. Products purchased through unauthorized channels may be counterfeit, expired, improperly stored, or otherwise compromised. Manufacturer guarantees typically do not apply to products purchased outside of authorized veterinary channels, which means if there is a product failure, you may have no recourse.

Beyond product integrity, getting medications through your veterinary team means those prescriptions are reviewed in the context of your pet’s full health history. Drug interactions, contraindications, and dosing accuracy are all considerations that matter and that your veterinarian is uniquely positioned to evaluate.

We strive to be competitive with our pharmacy pricing and to offer convenient options, including our online store, that make staying with us the easy choice.

Prescription Refills

Refilling a prescription for your pet should be straightforward. For most maintenance medications, you can request refills by calling us at 248-399-5225 or through our online store. Please allow adequate lead time for refills, particularly for compounded medications that may require processing time. Some long-term medications require periodic recheck exams or labwork to ensure your pet’s health status supports continued use, and we will let you know when that is the case.

Trusted Medication Management for Over 50 Years

Madison Veterinary Hospital has been a trusted healthcare partner for pets and their families throughout Madison Heights, Berkley, Hazel Park, Sterling Heights, and across the metro Detroit region since 1970. AAHA-accredited and named one of Newsweek’s Best Veterinary Hospitals in America in both 2025 and 2026, that recognition extends to every corner of our practice, including how we manage and dispense the medications your pet depends on. Our pharmacy services reflect the same standard of care and honesty we bring to every aspect of what we do. If you have questions about your pet’s medications, potential side effects, or alternatives, our team is always here to talk it through.

Some veterinary medications are available at human pharmacies, and in certain cases this may be an appropriate option. We can provide a written prescription for you to fill elsewhere if you prefer. We can provide a written prescription for medications we do not carry in-house, or coordinate ordering if the medication can be stocked. For unique or compounded needs, we work with trusted veterinary compounding pharmacy partners to ensure your pet has access to what they need.
